1. Restore moisture (most important step)
Use skin barrier oils that are fragrance free such as natural organic jojoba oil
Use thick emollients (creams/ointments rather than lotions).
Apply within 3 minutes after bathing (“soak and seal” method).
Modify bathing habits
Keep showers 5–10 minutes, lukewarm (not hot)
Use soap-free or gentle cleansers
Avoid scrubbing or loofahs on flaky areas
Pat skin dry—don’t rub
Use gentle exfoliation (when appropriate)
Helps remove dead, flaky buildup
Prefer chemical exfoliants:
Lactic acid (mild)
Urea (hydrating + exfoliating)
Limit to 1–2× per week
Avoid these if for sensitive, cracked and / or inflames skin
Improve your immediate environment and related factors
Use a humidifier (especially in winter or heated rooms)
Wear soft, breathable fabrics (cotton over wool)
Stay hydrated (supports overall skin function)
Avoid the potential triggers
Harsh soaps, sulfates, alcohol-based products
Overuse of exfoliants or acne treatments
Long hot baths
Cold, dry weather without skin protection
